USMC Tactical Markings

During World War 2 divisional and unit insignias were not worn on combat uniforms for security reasons. Instead a code system was developed to hide unit identity to the enemy. Here you can see the geometric shapes which identified the six Marine Divisions in WW2.

From left to right: 1st Marine Division, 2nd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Division, 4th Marine Division, 5th Marine Division, 6th Marine Division

You can find detailed information on 4th Marine Division specific UNIS here: 4th Marine Division UNIS Guide
5th Marine Division detailed UNIS coming soon.
