Imperial Japanese Army and Navy Uniforms & Equipment

By Tadao Nakata and Thomas B. Nelson. This has been the main reference book on Imperial Japanese Army and Navy Uniforms & Equipment for quite some time. A lot of original I.J.A. and I.J.N. militaria is featured from basic uniforms and equipment to rare and exotic pieces like paratrooper gear. There is even a section on Japanese weapons. Models are wearing all kinds of navy and army uniforms.  You can see nicely how they were supposed to be worn and how the uniform style changed over the years. All text is written in Japanese. Only the revised edition  comes with a thin english language summary booklet which translates at least some of the basic infos in the book. The other downside besides  the Japanese text are the pictures. They are to small and at times a bit on the soft side. Those pictures will not help you much if you want to identify fakes and repros.
