Marine Division SSI Patches

On the above picture you can see the WW2 Shoulder Sleeve Insignia of the 6 Marine Divisions. They were first authorized in 1943.  Collecting patches is not my specialty and there are a few variations of each patch, but the basic design pattern is always the same. From left to right, top row: 1st Marine Division, 2nd Marine Division (first pattern), 2nd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Division. Bottom row: 4th Marine Division, 5th Marine Division, 6th Marine Division. The 2nd Marine Division changed its SSI because it looked to similar to that of the 1st Division. By the way, SSI patches were not supposed to be worn on combat uniforms, even though you can see reenactors doing so from time to time 😉
