P41 Utility Jackets I: 4th Marine Division

A nice P41 Utility jacket with 4th Marine Division UNIS markings, this a follow up to my first post about P41 jackets. I will post more jackets from my collection in the future. Seems like this particular jacket has seen a lots of action, it is far from mint, frayed sleeves, dirt, small scorch marks and missing buttons. Nothing beats the “has been there” lookย  ๐Ÿ˜Ž

EGA stamp on the breast pocket

Two buttons have been replaced, also note the USMC style weave of the HBT fabric

Close up, this jacket appears to have been issued twice. First two a Corporal, 4th Engineer Battalion, HQ & Service Company (711), then to a Sergeant at Division HQ (111).

  1. Great guide for a newbie USMC collector! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks a lot for sharing.

Question: Which trousers would be right to use with the jacket above for at Pacific combat set? I have bought a nice jacket, but I still need the trousers and don’t really know what I should look for. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Hi,

The correct ones to go with the P41 Utility Jacket are called P41 Trousers or P41 Utility Trousers. You can also wear P42 camouflage trousers with a P41 Jacket but this combination would be much rarer and would only be correct for a limited number of impressions.

  3. OK, thanks a lot. Will start looking for a suitable pair. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. great site.. do you know where to get metal ega stencil ? also patterns for p41 and p44 utilittes..? any help appricated….

  5. Just remembered that there are some basic P41/P44 patterns in Tulkoffs excellent “Grunt Gear” book

  6. You can also wear Army HBT trousers with the utility shirt. Marines wore whatever they could get. I have heard that from many WW2 Marine Corps vets I spoke with over the years. Back in the late 70’s I got a camo uniform from a Marine Raider who lived in Philly. It was a cut down camo jump smock with Army camo HBT trousers. Also, an old friend told me he would wear khaki trousers with his utility shirt. And the list goes on.
