Shattered Sword: The Untold Story of the Battle of Midway by Jonathan Parshall and Anthony Tully.

“Shattered Sword presents an original, detailed, and engagingly written analysis of what really happened at Midway, making extensive use of Japanese primary sources and correcting the many errors of Mitsuo Fuchida’s Midway: The Battle That Doomed Japan. With its unique carrier-centric approach, it is a myth-smashing reevaluation of the most important battle of the Pacific theater.”

I will put it simply, if you have any interest in the Battle of Midway, WW2 Naval warfare in the pacific or the IJN: YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK!

It is an extremely detailed and well researched account of the Imperial Japanese Navy at the Battle of Midway. And it does indeed shatter a few “myths” that have been persistent in every book available in the western world. “Shattered Sword” is a groundbreaking achievement, I would never have thought that something like this is possible on a battle that has been written about so much in the past. Highly highly recommended, one of the best history books I have read in many years.

Shattered Sword: The Untold Story of the Battle of Midway. 614 pages, softcover, ISBN: 978-1-57488-924-6

PS A good example for the classic “Don’t judge a book by its cover” 😛
